About Us

The Capt. John J. McKenna IV Military Courtesy Room opened its doors on March 8th, 2010. The room was inspired by Capt. McKenna?s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the men and women who served under his command, and to serve his country and community.

To carry on, after Captain McKenna fell mortally wounded coming to the aid of one of his Marines in Iraq, and to fulfill his commitment to his fellow warriors, a community of citizens from the Capital Region saw a need to provide support services for members of our military as they travel through Albany International Airport.

Together with the cooperation of the Albany County Airport Authority and Tri-county Council of Vietnam Era Veterans, the Military Courtesy Room was established.Today, we operate

the room on the third floor observation level of the airport. The mission of our non-partisan organization is to provide media entertainment, snacks and support in a comfortable, friendly environment to every member of our military who travel through Albany International Airport.

We recognize that our military personnel make great sacrifices serving our country and are often separated from home and family on deployments.

As part of our commitment to help our service members, we also offer free hotel accommodations to stranded personnel at the Hilton Garden Inn ? Troy, NY through the generosity of BBL Construction?s PFC David Taylor Miller Stranded Military Fund.

With our expansion in March 2011, we now provide greater services to all active, reserve, retired military and their families. This expansion is the result of great community support of BBL Construction and their contractors and the dedicated commitment of our volunteers, without which this project would not have been possible.
